MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men's basketball team returns to the Kohl Center to host Michigan for a Valentine's Day matchup. The Badgers and Wolverines are set to tip off Tuesday night at 8 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on ESPN2.
Before the Badgers tip, here is the Starting Five:
1. LAST TIME OUT:Â Playing its second overtime game in four days, Chucky Hepburn scored a team-high 19 points, but Wisconsin was unable to overcome a second-half rally by Nebraska in a 73-63 overtime road loss on Saturday. Connor Essegian scored 13 points, and Max Klesmit rounded out double-figure scoring for UW with 12 points.
2. CE3: Essegian has either led the Badgers or been the team's second-leading scorer in five of the last six games. The true freshman is shooting 43.1 percent (56-for-130) from 3-point range this season, which ranks sixth best in the Big Ten (min. 20 3FGs). Among freshmen, Essegian ranks 12th in the nation in 3FG percentage.
3. CHUCKY AT THE POINT: Hepburn continues to elevate his game in his sophomore season. Over the last 10 games, the point guard is averaging 13.5 points per game while shooting a steady 41.1% from 3-point range. Defensively, Hepburn ranks top ten in Big Ten play averaging 1.9 steals per game. Hepburn's 1.95 career assist-to-turnover ratio would rank as one of the best in school history, as he currently ranks sixth behind Travon Davis who averaged 2.08.
4. SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES: Michigan (14-11, 8-6 B1G) is led by junior center Hunter Dickinson, averaging 17.9 points per game. Two other Michigan players are scoring in double digits – Jett Howard (14.8 ppg) and Kobe Bufkin (12.3 ppg). The Wolverines are coming off of a 62-61 home loss against Indiana on Saturday.
5. HISTORY WITH MICHIGAN: Wisconsin trails the all-time series between the two programs, 78-93. The last matchup came in Madison, when the Badgers earned a 76-63 victory. Steven Crowl scored 11 points and five rebounds in the matchup, while Hepburn and Tyler Wahl each added 10 points a piece.
