Badgers fall to Ohio State in overtime

Ceulemans records first career multi-goal game

Columbus, Ohio — The Wisconsin men's hockey team jumped out to a lead, but suffered an overtime loss to the No. 8/9 Ohio Buckeyes (20-7-2, 12-5-2) on Friday at Value City Arena.

Wisconsin (8-18-3, 5-13-1-1 Big Ten) came out of the gate hot, but couldn't hold on to their lead against one of the best third-period teams in the nation.

The Badgers' early power-play opportunity allowed them to take a 1-0 lead in the first period. Max Johnson buried the puck from the edge of the crease on a pass from Zach Urdahl and Liam Malmquist who battled for possession behind the Buckeye's net. UW led 8-0 in shots after Johnson's tally.

Corson Ceulemans added to the tally at 3:54 in the second period on a set up from Mathieu De St. Phalle. Jesper Peltonen hit De St. Phalle with a stretch pass in the neutral zone for a 3-on-2. De St. Phalle pulled up and waited for fourth-attacker Ceulemans, who found the net for his sixth of the season.

Ohio State made it a 2-1 game when Eric Cooley tapped in a rebound. James Marooney passed along the blue line to Mason Lohrei, who fired a shot on net that produced a rebound for Cooley on the doorstep.

Ceulemans took advantage of a power-play opportunity to restore the Badgers' two-goal lead. Brock Caufield and De St. Phalle traded the puck as they set up the power-play in the Buckeyes' zone before De St. Phalle fed Ceulemans a pass for a one-timer.

However, the Buckeyes climbed to within one at 3:31 in the final period. Michael Gildon scored during a scramble in front of the net, assisted by Grant Gabriele and Mason Lohrei

Ohio State's Jake Wise tied the game, 3-3, on the power play at 13:48 in the third. Lohrei started the play with a stretch pass to Cam Thiesing who was able to get off a quick shot as he crashed the net. Wise caught the rebound on the left side of the net and fired it in.
