UW opens six-game road swing with trip to northern Minnesota

MADISON, Wis. – The second-ranked Wisconsin women's hockey team hits the road this weekend to Bemidji, Minnesota, to take on the Bemidji State Beavers. Puck drop on Friday at the Sanford Center is set for 3 p.m. while Saturday's series finale begins at 2 p.m. CT.

1. LAST TIME OUT: In their only series in the month of November, the Badgers made it count, taking four of a possible six points against rival Minnesota at LaBahn Arena. The Badgers rallied to tie the Golden Gophers, 3-3, on Nov. 19 thanks to an extra-attacker goal by Britta Curl with 10 seconds remaining in regulation. On Nov. 20, four different Badgers lit the lamp to lead UW to a 4-1 win against Minnesota to send UW's unbeaten run against top-ranked teams to six-straight games.

2. A BIG WEEKEND FOR CAMI: Senior Cami Kronish earned her first WCHA Goaltender of the Week award on Nov. 21 after backstopping UW to the series win against Minnesota. The senior made a SportsCenter Top-10 Save in a 3-3 tie on Nov. 19 and set a season high in stops with 38 before making 26 saves in a 4-1 win on Nov. 20.

3. MOVING ON UP: Following their series win against then top-ranked Minnesota, the Badgers moved up to No. 2 in both the DCU/USCHO.Com Poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll, their highest ranking of the season in either poll. UW is one of four WCHA teams ranked in the top-eight of the DCU/USCHO.Com Poll as Ohio State is No. 1, Minnesota is No. 5 and Minnesota Duluth is No. 8.

4. LAST TIME AGAINST THE BEAVERS: The Badgers have already faced the Beavers this season, sweeping Bemidji State on Oct. 20 and 21 at LaBahn Arena. Kirsten Simms had a five-point weekend against Beavers and was named the WCHA Rookie of the Week following the sweep while Lacey Eden and Laila Edwards each posted four points in the series.

5. WHO'S READY TO HIT THE ROAD: This weekend marks the first of three- straight road series for UW. Following the showdown in Bemidji State the Badgers head to Mankato, Minnesota on Dec. 9-10 to face Minnesota State. Following a 21-day holiday break, the Badgers face No. 4 Quinnipiac on Dec. 31/Jan. 1 in Hamden, Connecticut to close out the road swing. The three-straight road series is UW's longest road swing since the 2018-19 season when the Badgers had consecutive road trips to St. Cloud State, Ohio State and Minnesota.
