Quick Six: Badgers take on OSU in rescheduled Saturday-Sunday series

Wisconsin hosts Ohio State for first series of 2022

MADISON, Wis. — Game on! The Badgers men's hockey team rings in the New Year this week with a series against the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 8-9, at the Kohl Center. The series was originally scheduled for Friday-Saturday.

Here are six quick things to know before tuning in:

Rosters: Badgers || Ohio State

1 - HOLIDAY FACE-OFF FINISH: The Badgers were crowned Holiday Face-Off champions after coming back from a 2-0 deficit and then winning a shootout over No. 16 Providence prior to the New Year in Milwaukee. Wisconsin took down Yale, 3-2 in overtime, to advance to the championship.

2 - PLAY IT COOL: Freshman defenseman and Columbus Blue Jackets draft pick Corson Ceulemans was named Big Ten Second Star of the Week and most outstanding defenseman of the tournament following his three-point performance in the Holiday Face-Off. The Alberta native scored from the goal line in the championship match to spark the Badgers' comeback. Ceulemans now leads the Badgers with 13 points and has seven points in his last four games.

Ceulemans received national recognition Wednesday when the Hockey Commissioners Association named him top rookie of the month for December.

3 - ZACH ATTACK: Zach Urdahl checked off a major career milestone when he scored his first collegiate goal against Yale in the first game of the Holiday Face-Off. The freshman forward out of Eau Claire won it all for the Badgers the next night with the shootout winner against Providence.

4 - MDSP HEATIN' UP: Sophomore forward and Badger legacy Mathieu De St. Phalle has been dominating the score sheet lately with a point in each of his last four games. He netted the game-tying goal in the Holiday Face-Off championship and was named the tournament's most outstanding forward.

5 - THIRD PERIOD POWER: The Badgers proved themselves as a third-period team once again in their game against Providence when they scored twice in the final set to force the game into overtime. Wisconsin has scored 19 of their 38 goals this season in the third period and limited their opponents to just 16 goals in the final stretch, making it their best-performing period.

6 - HOW TO WATCH: Puck drop is set for 6 p.m on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Those with Friday tickets should use their tickets for Sunday's game.
