MADISON, Wis. – Coming off a home win over No. 16 Ohio State last week, the Badgers are on a six-game win streak and head to Northwestern on Tuesday. Tip set for 8 p.m. CT. If you can't make the trip to Evanston, you can watch the game live on the Big Ten Network.
Â
Here is the Starting Five:
Â
1.) Rematch Revenge:Â Winners of five straight heading into last Thursday's game vs. Ohio State, the Badgers' last loss coincidentally came against the Buckeyes in Columbus. Wisconsin would avenge that earlier loss, however, led by a game-high 25 points from
Brad Davison and a statsheet-stuffying performance from
Tyler Wahl with 20 points, seven rebounds, a career-high six assists, and three steals. It marked the second-straight 20-plus point game for Wahl.
Â
2.) WAHL is Good: The junior forward is hitting his stride, having now scored double figures in three straight games and five of the last six. The last three games, Wahl is averaging 19.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. "(Wahl) played with a tremendous amount of confidence," head coach
Greg Gard said after Thursday's win. "He's improved his game at all areas and finally got some threes to go in for him. Just the confidence, I think that he plays with right now, he knows that he's a really good player." The Lakeville, Minnesota native's midseason rise is exactly what the Badgers needed to propel them to a 5-1 start in league play.
Â
Â
3.) Resume Builder: Wisconsin's victory over Ohio State last Thursday put the Badgers at 7-1 against Quad 1 opponents this season (as of January 13). That's more Quad 1 wins than any other team in the country, as Baylor is just behind UW with five such wins. At 14-2 overall, Wisconsin is off to its best start ever under head coachÂ
Greg Gard.
Â
4.) Stats to Note: If you've watched Badger basketball you would know that this program likes to limit turnovers and hold onto the rock. Well, nothing has changed as the team is on top of all Division I squads averaging just 8.2 turnovers per contest. Despite scoring a season-low 14 points last Thursday,
Johnny Davis still ranks third in the Big Ten and sixth in the nation averaging 21.7 points per game. UW is also getting it done defensively, ranked fourth in the Big Ten in points allowed per game (55.1).
Â
5.) Series with the Wildcats: Wisconsin leads the all-time series with Northwestern, 121-65, including a 43-39 edge over the Wildcats in games played in Evanston. The Badgers took a pair of wins over Northwestern last season, and UW looks to increase its series advantage with a win Tuesday night.
