Here are some notes to know before the Badgers take on the Golden Eagles.
UW Stings Yellow Jackets – With a 70-66 victory over Georgia Tech on Wednesday night in Atlanta, Wisconsin clinched the Big Ten/ACC Challenge for the conference. The first true road game for UW in two seasons started off with the Badgers making six of their first nine shots from 3-point range.
Brad Davison's hot shooting night from deep gave Wisconsin a double-digit lead in the second, but the Yellow Jackets were able to equalize the game with 5:27 to go before UW ultimately pulled out the win. Davison finished with a season-high 27 points and added three assists.
Johnny Davis joined Davison in double figures with 15 points and a team-high five assists.
Davison Now Third in 3s – Brad Davison is inching closer to breaking the program record for made 3-point field goals after hitting five against Georgia Tech to pass Ben Brust for third place all-time in UW annals. The fifth-year senior guard has made 238 career 3s and needs 32 more to tie Bronson Koening for the record. Five made 3s from Davison on Wednesday night marked his most made triples since since draining as many in the first round of last year's NCAA Tournament when UW beat North Carolina, 85-62. Davison also ranks 11th in school history with 1,470 career points.
Winning the Turnover Battle – In all seven of its contests so far this season, Wisconsin has had the same or less turnovers than its opponent. The Badgers are tied for No. 8 in the country turning the ball over just 8.9 times per contest, maintaining a turnover margin of 4.6 that is good for 35th place in the NCAA.
FREE Throws – Wisconsin is now 103-for-128 (80.5%) from the free-throw line this season. That mark is good for second in the Big Ten behind Iowa and ranks Wisconsin eighth-best in the country for free throw percentage. With a minimum of ten made free throws, Davison leads the Badgers shooting 84.4% (27-32) from the line.
I-94 Rivalry – Wisconsin holds the all-time series lead against Marquette, 68-59. When the programs met last season in Milwaukee, the Golden Eagles edged out the Badgers, 67-65. This will be the first edition of the matchup with Shaka Smart as head coach for MU.
