Wisconsin faces St. Cloud State in first series since WCHA days

MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men's hockey team travels for the first time this season, visiting St. Cloud, Minnesota, to face the St. Cloud State Huskies.

Here are six quick things to know before tuning in:

1 - TOP RANKED: The Badgers are set to play six straight games against top four opponents and eight straight against nationally ranked competition beginning with St. Cloud State, which is currently ranked third in the nation. UW will face No. 1 Michigan at the end of the month before going head-to-head with No. 4 Minnesota and No. 13 Notre Dame.

2 - FROM THE HISTORY BOOKS: The Badgers are making their first trip to St. Cloud, Minnesota, since Nov. 4-5, 2011, when both teams were members of the WCHA. The Badgers are 15-18-5 all-time against SCSU at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center and are making their first appearance since the facility was renovated for the 2013–14 season. Wisconsin's last meeting against the Huskies took place in the semifinals of the 2013 WCHA Tournament, a 4-1 victory for the Badgers, who were on their way to the tournament crown, their last WCHA games before moving on to the Big Ten.

3 - CAPTAIN COMES IN CLUTCH: Senior captain Tarek Baker scored the short-handed, game-winning goal last Friday against Army with exactly three minutes left in regulation to complete a sweep of the Black Knights. The goal came as Baker's sixth game-winner and third short-handed goal of his career.

4 - NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP FINALISTS: St. Cloud faced Massachusetts in the 2021 NCAA Championship Game in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, ultimately dropping the contest 5-0. The Huskies have 22 returning players on their roster who competed on last season's national runner-up squad.

5 - MOE-MENTUM: Transfer goalie Jared Moe is fresh off a 19-save shutout against Army on Friday for his first shutout as a Badger and second of his collegiate career. His first shutout came in a 2-0, 28-save performance at Michigan State on Jan. 11, 2020.

6 - HOW TO WATCH: Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday and 6 p.m on Saturday. The game will stream on NCHC.tv ($). Follow along on Twitter at @BadgerMHockey
