Badgers host Hawkeyes on Sunday
MADISON, WIS.- The Badgers stay home as they host the Hawkeyes on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Here are five things to know before tip-off against Iowa.
1. Wolverine Wrap-Up: Wisconsin fell to Michigan on Thursday night, the final score 56-68. Imani Lewis led the team in scoring with 17 points, while Niya Beverley put up 11 and Sydney Hilliard had 10. Redshirt junior Courtney Fredrickson saw her return to the hardwood after sustaining an injury early last season. Both Suzanne Gilreath and Kendra Van Leeuwen put down stats to advance themselves closers to the next spot up in the career top-10 lists for their respective records.
2. Abby's Act: Senior forward Abby Laszewski has recorded 103 career blocks after swatting two against Michigan on Jan. 16. She is now one block away from entering the career top-10.
3. Hawkeye Heads Up: Iowa is currently 14-3, 5-1 in Big Ten conference play and third in conference standings. The team's only Big Ten loss comes from Nebraska, who took down the Hawkeyes 78-69. The Hawkeyes have defeated No. 12 Indiana and No. 17 Maryland and as of week 11 of the AP Poll, are ranked No. 22. Three players are averaging double-digits in scoring- Kathleen Doyle with 18.1 ppg, Monika Czinano with 15.7 ppg and Makenzie Meyer with 14.6 ppg. Amanda Ollinger averages 8.8 rebounds per game. Doyle has caught national attention this season. Most recently, she's been Big Ten Player of the Week twice and named to the Big Ten Honor Roll. Doyle is also a Naismith Player of the Week, on the Ann Meyers Drysdale watch list and started the season with a spot on the Preseason All-Big Ten team. Meyer joins Doyle on the weekly Honor Roll with two nominations.
4. Come Celebrate: This Sunday, Wisconsin will be hosting activities and events before the game in celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Doors will open two hours at noon and the main concourse will feature things such as face painting and the chance to hang out with other female student-athletes. Post-game, the team will be signing autographs nears Gate A. It is also Sunday Kids Day and the first 1,000 kids age 12 and under will receive a free pair of slippers, as well as Monroe Community Day. Tickets for Sunday can be purchased here.
