Vancouver, British Columbia -- Freshman forward
Cole Caufield buried three shots for a hat trick and helped Wisconsin to a 7-5 exhibition-game victory at British Columbia in their rematch on Sunday.
UW grabbed a 3-0 triumph over the Thunderbirds on Friday.
This time, the Badgers struck on four power plays, leading 4-0 after one period and 5-1 after two frames.
Captain
Wyatt Kalynuk,
Sean Dhooghe, Caufield, and freshman
Dylan Holloway tallied in the first period, with three assists from
K'Andre Miller in the stanza. Frosh
Alex Turcotte chipped in an assist in the period, among others.Â
Caufield added a second goal in the second period, but UW allowed a short-handed tally, as well.
UBC charged back in the third period, getting to withing 5-4, but Caufield stopped the bleeding with a finish on a 2-on-1.
UBC closed to 6-5 with an extra-attacker goal, but
Jack Gorniak scored into an empty net moments later to seal a 7-5 win.Â
In a unique twist, Wisconsin shot against its own goaltenders in the game, facing
Daniel Lebedeff in the first period, and
Jack Berry in the final two. Due to injuries, UBC was without its top-two goaltenders.Â
Berry started the game for the Badgers before switching teams in the second period.
Johan Blomquist played the second and third periods in goal for Wisconsin.Â
Up next for the Badgers:
Wisconsin returns back to Madison for the start of school on Wednesday, but will go more than a month before the regular-season opener at Boston College on Oct. 11. UW opens its home slate Oct. 18-19 at the Kohl Center against two-time defending NCAA champion Minnesota Duluth.Â
