AUSTIN, Texas — Cameron Tysoe has been at his best when it's mattered most this season.
Saturday was no different for the Wisconsin junior, who scored a 10th-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke on the final day of the NCAA men's swimming and diving championships.
In need of a qualifying time, Tysoe raced his way into the national meet with a personal-best swim three weeks ago. He proved Saturday that he wasn't just happy to be there, though.
Tysoe lowered his best yet again in the morning prelims with a swim of 1 minute, 39.80 seconds — second-fastest in school history — that earned him a spot in the finals.
Entering the consolation final seeded 14th, Tysoe made the most of his moment yet again by racing to a 10th-place showing in 1:39.97 and earning honorable mention All-America honors.
Like Tysoe, sophomore MJ Mao made his NCAA championships debut Saturday and finished 31st overall in the 200 breaststroke, clocking in at 1:55.09. Mao owns the Badgers' No. 2 all-time mark in the 200 breast, at 1:53.76.
