RALEIGH, N.C. – The Wisconsin softball team won its fourth-straight game Saturday afternoon, shutting out Pitt 8-0 in five innings. The Badgers are now 3-0 at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and 7-1 on the season.
A leadoff home run from sophomore
Taylor Johnson put the Badgers on the board. They extended their lead in the first inning to 2-0 when
Kelly Welsh laid down a sacrifice bunt to score
Tyra Turner from third base.
Kayla Konwent came in clutch in the second inning when she ripped a three-RBI double to right field with the bases loaded and two outs.
In the bottom of the third, junior
Jordan Little hit a double of her own to make it a 6-0 ballgame.
The last of the scoring commenced in the fifth inning.
Stephanie Lombardo started the inning with a single up the middle. Her pinch runner,
Heather Rudnicki, stole second base before being joined on the base path by freshman
Jolie Fish after she was walked. Both runners advanced on a
Lauren Foster sacrifice bunt and Rudnicki made it home off a sacrifice fly from Little. Freshman
Ally Miklesh sealed the game with a two-out single that scored Fish.
Sophomore
Haley Hestekin advanced to 4-1 in the circle with her second win of the weekend. She went three innings with two strikeouts, one hit allowed and no walks. Freshman
Maddie Schwartz pitched the final two innings and also had two strikeouts, one hit allowed and no walks.
Batting clean-up: Four notes to know
- Konwent and Melanie Cross both extended streaks today. Konwent has now recorded a hit in all eight games this season and Cross has reached base in all games this season as well.
- Little and Konwent recorded a team-best two hits each. Together they combined for five of UW's eight RBI.
- The Badgers have now gone four-straight games without an error.
- With today's 8-0 win, Wisconsin has five shutouts in seven games this season.
