UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The No. 7 Badger men's hockey team (4-4-0, 0-2-0 Big Ten) fell for the second time this weekend at No. 12 Penn State (6-1-0, 2-0-0 Big Ten), dropping a 4-2 game at Pegula Ice Arena.
Â
Sophomore forward
Jack Gorniak got the Badgers head in the first period with his first of the season, then junior captain
Wyatt Kalynuk scored his first of the season late in the second period to tie the game at two.
Unfortunately for Wisconsin, two goals were not enough to prevent being swept for the first time this season.
Â
An unusual second period goal for Penn State may be the deciding factor on how this game finished out. Penn State's Alex Limoges got a friendly bounce off the corner boards after the puck was dumped into the UW zone by Penn State. Lebedeff naturally went to get the puck behind the net for his defensemen, but the bounce set up Limoges perfectly for an empty net and the go-ahead goal.
Â
An empty-net goal from Penn State sealed the Badgers' fate.
Â
Notes to know:
- Â Linus Weissbach dished out his ninth assist of the season tonight, leading all Badgers
- Â Daniel Lebedeff recorded at least 30 saves in each of his last three appearances
- Â Wisconsin as a team only faced eight minutes of penalties following last night's season high 59 minutes
Up next: Wisconsin will be on the road again next weekend with a non-conference matchup versus the Omaha Mavericks out of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC). Puck drop will be 7 p.m. both Friday and Saturday night from Nebraska. A stream will be available both nights on NCHC+ and the game will be available on WIBA 1310.
