MADISON, Wis. -- Coming off of a series sweep against the two-time reigning national champs in Minnesota Duluth, the No. 6 Wisconsin men's hockey team looks to take its momentum and three-game win streak against defending ECAC tourney champion Clarkson this weekend at the Kohl Center.
Â
Here are six quick things you should know before No. 13 Clarkson:
Â
1. JUMPIN', JUMPIN':Â Wisconsin jumped 11 spots from No. 17 to No. 6 in the USCHO rankings, the biggest rise in the over 22-year history of the poll. Wisconsin also sits sixth in the top 15 of the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine ranking. They were unranked in this poll last week.
Â
2. LEBEDEFF'S BIG WEEKEND: Sophomore goaltender
Daniel Lebedeff was named the Big Ten First Star of the Week after his performance versus Minnesota Duluth last weekend. The reigning national champs averaged 3.2 goals per game last season, but Lebedeff held the Bulldogs to less than three goals all weekend. The Badger defense only allowed two goals Friday and one goal Saturday. Lebedeff had a total of 57 saves on the weekend and earned his first career Big Ten weekly honor.
The three goals allowed by Wisconsin matches the second-lowest weekend goals against allowed in the Granato coaching era.
Â
3. WHAT TO WEAR TO THE GAME: The Badgers will wear red jerseys on the ice this weekend, so we are encouraging fans to come to Friday's game wearing their favorite red gear. On Saturday, fans are invited to come to the game in their Halloween costume. The best costumes will win a Badger Prize Pack. Crease Creatures who come in costume will get a free Cousins Sub, while supplies last. Also look for a pregame and intermission photo station in the concourse to get your photo taken in costume.
Â
4. OFFENSIVE JUGGERNAUT:Â The Badgers lead the nation with 23 goals and a 5.75 goal-per-game scoring average. UW also shares the national lead with seven power-play goals and leads with three short-handed tallies. UW's 38.9 percent power play is good for third in the country.
Â
5. SCOUTING CLARKSON: The Clarkson Golden Knights are defending ECACÂ tournament champions with a bitter taste in their mouth after losing in overtime to Notre Dame in the opening round of the NCAA tournament last season. So far this season, the Golden Knights are 2-1-1 with wins against Michigan and Vermont. Their one loss comes from their last game against Providence when the No. 7 Friars overcame Clarkson 4-2.
Â
Clarkson boasts a graduate student goalie with veteran experience in Frank Marotte. Marotte played previously at Robert Morris where he had a .917 career save percentage. Clarkson's top scorer is junior Zach Tsekos, recording three goals and one assist so far this season.
