Game Coverage

Monday, Feb. 19  |  8 p.m. (CT)  |  Kohl Center

MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin looks to extend its winning streak over Minnesota when the Badgers host the Gophers on Monday. Wisconsin has won seven straight overall against its Border Battle rivals and has won 18 of the last 19 home games against Minnesota. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. (CT) on FS1.

Up next, UW will travel to All State Arena in Rosemont, Illinois to take on Northwestern on Thursday. Tip is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN2.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW: MINNESOTA

1. GARD IN CONTROL: With a record of 54-34 (.614), Greg Gard owns the third-highest win percentage in school history (min. 60 games) behind Hall of Famers Bo Ryan (.737) and Walter Meanwell (.712).
2. TOP-10 TAKEDOWNS: With the win over No. 6 Purdue, Greg Gard improved to 6-5 vs. teams ranked in the top 10 of the AP poll, giving him six wins over top-10 squads in just three seasons at the helm. Hall of Fame coach Bo Ryan didn't record his sixth win over a top-10 opponent until his ninth season at Wisconsin (2009), going 6-18 vs. the AP Top 10 over that span.
3. FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH: Wisconsin has one of the least experienced rosters in college basketball. The average experience level is 1.01 years. Only 20 of the 351 teams in the nation are younger. The Badgers' talented freshman class has accounted for 35.6% of the team's scoring this season.
4. HAPP HAVING HIS WAY: All-American Ethan Happ is the only player to rank among the Big Ten's top 10 in points (3rd at 18.3 ppg), rebounds (4th at 8.4 rpg) and assists (9th at 3.9 apg). He is also the only major conference player averaging at least 16.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg and 3.0 apg.
5. UNPARALLELED SUCCESS: Wisconsin has enjoyed the greatest streak of sustained success in Big Ten history, boasting a winning conference record in each of the last 17 seasons.

ALL-TIME vs. MINNESOTA

Wisconsin and Minnesota will be playing for the 202nd time on Monday, making the Gophers the most-played opponent in UW history.

  • Minnesota leads the all-time series, 102-99, but Wisconsin owns a 63-33 edge in Madison
  • Interestingly, the football series between Wisconsin and Minnesota is just as close, with the Badgers holding a slim 60-59-8 edge all-time
  • Recently, the Badgers have dominated both the basketball and football rivalries with Minnesota. In basketball, UW has won each of the last seven meetings with the Gophers, and 11 of the last 13. In football, Wisconsin has won 13 straight over Minnesota.
  • Wisconsin has won 18 of the last 19 home games against Minnesota dating back to 1995, when the Badgers played in the UW Field House. UM's only win during that stretch came in 2009. Wisconsin is 12-1 all-time against the Gophers in the Kohl Center, which opened in 1998.
  • Ethan Happ has averaged 16.3 points and 11.7 rebounds in three career games against Minnesota. That includes a 28-point, 12-rebound, 6-assist, 5-block performance last season.
  • Wisconsin's roster features four players from the state of Minnesota: junior Alex Illikainen (Grand Rapids) and freshmen Brad Davison (Osseo), Walt McGrory (Minneapolis) and Nate Reuvers (Lakeville)
  • Minnesota has been a very fertile recruiting area for the Badgers over the last 10 years. Since 2007, UW's roster has featured standouts like Jon Leuer, Jordan Taylor, Jared Berggren, Kammron Taylor and Mike Bruesewitz.

LAST TIME OUT

WISCONSIN 57, #6 PURDUE 53
Feb. 15, 2018 | Kohl Center | Madison, Wis.

  • On the night where Wisconsin raised Frank Kaminsky's No. 44 into the Kohl Center rafters, the Badgers took down No. 6 Purdue, 57-53
  • The Badgers held the Boilermakers to their lowest point total since 2015, a span of 98 games. UW held PU scoreless for a span of 8:38 in the first half and a Big Ten-low 39.6% shooting
  • UW overcame 19.0% shooting from outside (third-lowest of the season) by turning it over just nine times and out-scoring PU, 26-16, in the paint
  • Junior Ethan Happ led UW with 21 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 blocks, marking his third-straight game with at least 20 points
  • Freshman Brad Davison scored in double figures for the fifth straight game, finishing with 16 points (2-4 3FGs). Junior Khalil Iverson grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds and also had 3 blocks.
