MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin women's basketball team (7-3) returns home Wednesday night, continuing non-conference play against Chicago State (0-8). Tip time is 7 p.m. at the Kohl Center. This is the penultimate non-conference game at home before Big Ten season.
1. LAST TIME OUT: The Badgers dropped an in-state rivalry game to Green Bay, 55-46, Saturday at the Kress Center in Green Bay. It was a battle as the game featured eight ties and eight lead changes but the Phoenix used a 6-0 run in the last 57 seconds of the third quarter to grab a 42-36 lead and never gave the lead up again. Down by 10, 48-38, the Badgers brought it back within four points, 48-44, with 4:25 left in the game by a huge 3-pointer from freshman Alex Luehring but that was as close as they would get.
2. DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Senior Marsha Howard grabbed her ninth career double-double with a game-high 14 points and 11 rebounds against the Phoenix. This is her fourth double-double of the season in 10 games.
3. OUTBOARD: The Badgers were outrebounded on Saturday as Green Bay finished with a 46-38 advantage in boards. UW has only been outboarded three times this season, contributing to their only three losses on the season.
4. 26 YEAR DROUGHT: The last time Wisconsin and Chicago State faced each other was in 1992, 26 years ago, when UW defeated the Cougars 82-66 in Madison. UW leads the all-time series 6-0 over CSU and leads the series in Madison, 5-0.
5. SCOUTING THE COUGARS: On Sunday, Chicago State (0-8), rallied in the fourth quarter, outscoring SIUE, 22-17, but it wasn't enough to overcome their early deficit dropping the game, 82-66. Freshman Kourtney Crane tallied a season-best 23 points for Chicago State while draining 12 of her free throw attempts as well as shooting 5-of-12 from the field. Crane also finished with four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
