HONOLULU — In the midst of their annual training camp in the Hawaiian Islands, Wisconsin's divers squeezed in some competition this weekend, as well.
Shortly after arriving in Honolulu, the Badgers competed Thursday and Friday in the Wally Nakamoto Hawaii Diving Invitational.
Ashley Peterson led the way for the Wisconsin women with a pair of NCAA zone qualifying marks, including a personal-best score of 338.95 to take fourth place on the 3-meter springboard on Friday. That came on the heels of her sixth-place showing on the 1-meter board on Thursday, with a score of 276.85.
Sophomore Hazel Hertting was the Badgers' No. 2 finisher in both events, recording a pair of 11th-place showings. She tallied a NCAA zone qualifying score of 287.15 on the 3-meter board and totaled 263.55 points in the 1-meter event.
On the platform, sophomore Gabriella Comunale took fourth place with a score of 214.10.
For the UW men, freshman Kevin Pomeroy missed an NCAA zone qualifying mark on the 3-meter board by a single point, scoring 319.00 to take 11th place Thursday — a finish he would replicate on the 1-meter board a day later.
Sophomore Andrew Pearce claimed a 10th-place finish in the 1-meter competition with a score of 288.00, finishing ahead of teammates Pomeroy, who was 11th with a mark of 277.90, and sophomore Matt Aronson, who took 12th at 276.30.
Sophomore Ethan O'Neill turned in a personal-best performance on the platform Friday with a score of 287.40 that was good for fifth place.
The Badgers are next in action Jan. 13, when they join UW's swimmers for a dual meet in Los Angeles with a USC program that ranks No. 8 on the women's side of the latest CSCAA coaches poll and No. 16 among the men.
