Badgers open Armory Track Invitational with strong showings

Wisconsin ends first day of meet with a victory in the distance medley relay

NEW YORK CITY – The Wisconsin men's track and field team capped off a successful first day of the Armory Track Invitational in New York City with a victory in the distance medley relay on Friday.

The Badger distance medley relay squad of Joe Hardy, Eric Brown, Cooper Barth, and Austin Mudd clocked in at 9 minutes, 50.96 seconds. Hardy ran the 1200 meters in 3:02 with Eric Brown following suit with a time of 48.9 in the 400 meters. Barth and Mudd were responsible for the cleanup where Barth would run a 1:52.9 in the 800 meters and Mudd a mile split of 4:06.4. The time ranks 22nd in the country and third in the conference.

Starting the day for the men was Lorenzo Larry, who won his preliminary 60 meter heat in 6.83. Larry would later compete in the 60 meter semifinals where just miss on advancing to the finals, finishing ninth in 6.79.

Freshman Zack Snider finished third in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:12.99.

Ryan Davis and Corbin Ellis both had great showings in the 500 meters. Davis competed in the 500 where he finished fifth with a time of 1:04.26. Corbin Ellis was fast in his stead, .17 seconds behind Davis, finishing in sixth with a time of 1:04.43.

Riley Budde and Josh McDonald represented the Cardinal and White at the Armory in the throws. Budde finished fourth overall in the shot put with a heave of 58 feet, 1/4 inch. Budde's throw was a personal best and ranks seventh in program history. McDonald had a throw of 54-1 to finish 10th

McKena Ramos would run the 1000 meters in 2:29.08 to capture an eighth-place finish.

The Badgers wrap up action in the Big Apple on Saturday at 8 a.m. CT.
