EAST LANSING, Mich.-- The Wisconsin men's hockey team's (4-24-4, 2-14-2-2) scoring woes continued Saturday night, as the Badgers could not overcome Michigan State's (16-14-2, 10-6-2-2) rock-solid goaltending, losing, 3-0, at Munn Ice Arena.

Fast Facts
? Badgers took season-high 38 shots
? Wisconsin was shutout for third time in four games
? UW went 0-for-4 on the pwoer play

MSU's fifth win in its last seven tries jumps the team ahead of Penn State and Minnesota into first place in the Big Ten standings. The series sweep is the first for the Spartans against UW since March 1976.

The result marked Wisconsin's second-straight shutout loss and third in its last four games. The Badgers have not scored a goal since the second period of their 5-2 loss to Michigan, Feb. 28--a goal draught of 140:29.

Spartans' goaltender Jake Hildebrand earned his sixth shutout of the season, tying him for the nation lead. The Butler, Pennsylvania, native has not allowed a goal in four of his last eight starts.

Identical to Friday night's game, Matt Berry opened the scoring.

He skated nearly the length of the ice and fired a low wrist shot blocker side to beat Wisconsin netminder Landon Peterson, 1:42 into the second period. The tally was Berry's sixth in eight career games versus the Badgers.

Adam Rockwood had an opportunity to tie the score about halfway through the period, as the freshman gathered a loose puck and crashed the net. Rockwood toe-dragged and lifted the puck, but Hildebrand stood tall, shouldering the save.

A two-goal third period by Michigan State foiled any chance the Badgers had to put together a late rally.

Mackenzie MacEachern recorded the Spartans' third power-play goal in the series with a tap-in on the left backdoor, which was set up by Berry. MSU now has at least one goal on the man advantage in six of its last seven contests.

And just 54 seconds later, a nifty play by Joe Cox led to a Ryan Keller goal.

Cox, on the forecheck, forced a Wisconsin turnover, dodged Rockwood and saucered a pass from his knees to Keller in front. The receiving party one-timed the feed in mid-air over Peterson's right shoulder.

Michigan State's high-pressured, conference-leading penalty kill denied four power-play attempts by the Badgers. Wisconsin was unsuccessful in all 14 man advantage opportunities this year against MSU.

The Badgers recorded a season high 38 shots in the loss. Peterson made 28 saves in his third start and fourth appearance of the 2014-15 campaign.

Wisconsin wraps up its regular-season slate with a home series against Ohio State next weekend. The Friday opener at the Kohl Center is set for a 7 p.m. puck drop on American Sports Network, while the finale will begin at 6 p.m., and can be seen on BTN.
