EAST LANSING, Mich.-- The Wisconsin men's hockey team (4-23-4, 2-13-2-2) was plagued by seven penalties Friday night, as Michigan State (15-14-2, 9-6-2-2) capitalized twice on six power plays to take down the Badgers, 3-0, at Munn Ice Arena.
The shutout loss marked UW's third in the past four games and second to MSU this season.

Despite a first period that clearly favored Michigan State, the Badgers were only behind by a goal after 20 minutes.
The Spartans tallied on the power play at the 11:48 mark.
Mackenzie MacEachern skated with the puck across the top of the UW zone and down along the right side, head up, scanning for an open teammate. As the Troy, Michigan, native reached the right face off dot, he backhanded a pass to the low left side. Matt Berry, standing on the backdoor, buried the puck with ease.
Wisconsin had just one shot in the first, which came off Joseph LaBate's stick on the game's opening shift.
The first frame was no indication of the second, though, as UW earned two chances and a power play within the period's first 50 seconds.
Grant Besse was denied by MSU goaltender Jake Hildebrand on a point-blank shot after a puck squirted to him in front.
Seconds later, Hildebrand foiled a good shot by Morgan Zulinick.
UW then drew a hooking penalty against Berry.
The Badgers had solid puck movement on the man advantage, but were unable to generate any legitimate scoring chances.
Michigan State captain Michael Ferrantino added to his team's lead with a rebound goal.
Brent Darnell stood alone behind the UW net before attempting a wraparound on the right side. Badgers' netminder Joel Rumpel made the initial save but allowed the puck to slide to the left side where Ferrantino put it away with a backhander. The goal broke a tie with MacEachern for the team-lead.
In the third period, Berry netted his second power-play score with a wrister from the slot through traffic.
Wisconsin did not give up, as Morgan Zulinick and Matt Paape each rung posts late in the contest.
Hildebrand stood strong to earn his conference-leading fifth shutout of the season, while Rumpel made 25 saves.
The Badgers look to force a season series split with Michigan State, Saturday at 6 p.m. on BTN.
