MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin men's tennis team put up an impressive performance on Friday night, topping SIUE, 4-1, at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

UW opened the match with a dominating win in doubles play, recording two quick victories to clinch the point. The Badgers followed up their doubles wins with three singles victories to take the dual by a final score of 4-1.

On doubles court 1, juniors Alexander Kokorev and Jakhongir Jalalov defeated SIUE's Stephen Washuta and Nicolas Vincent by a score of 6-1. Sophomore John Zordani and freshman Darius Mackenzie followed with a 6-2 triumph over Patrick Gaffigan and Matthew Hutchinson at No. 3 doubles to seal UW's point. Freshmen Jose Carranza and Josef Dodridge held a 5-2 lead, but the duo was unable to finish their match on court 2.

In singles play, senior Michael Sinha recorded a quick victory in straight sets (6-0, 6-2) over Nico Kuehn to give Wisconsin a 2-0 edge. SIUE responded with a win to close the gap to 2-1, with Stephen Washuta defeating Mackenzie 6-3, 7-5.

But the Badgers countered with two match victories to seal the dual for the Cardinal and White. Zordani tallied a win on court 5 over Gaffigan in straight sets (6-4, 6-3) and Jalalov battled hard to get the win over Marten Jonsson on court 2. Jalalov took the match by a final score of 6-4, 7-5.

Both Kokorev and Carranza were unable to finish out their matches on courts 1 and 4. Kokorev claimed a first-set victory, 7-6, and was battling point-by-point in the second set, while Carranza had tallied a first-set win of 6-4.

"It was a good win," UW head coach Greg Van Emburgh said. "They're a pretty solid team and it was important for us to get a win today to try and use that for Purdue on Sunday. So the guys should be feeling good and should be able to play with some confidence on Sunday."

The Badgers return to action on Sunday when they welcome Purdue to the Nielsen Tennis Stadium. UW's dual against the Boilermakers begins at noon.
