ANN ARBOR, Mich.-- After getting out to an early lead and tying the game through two periods, the Wisconsin men's hockey team (4-22-4, 2-12-2) was defeated in the third period, as the Badgers lost to No. 17 Michigan (19-11-0, 11-5-0), 5-2, Saturday night at Yost Ice Arena.

Just as the Badgers did in the opener Friday night, the Badgers played Michigan tough early on.
Wisconsin took the lead after Ryan Wagner caught a rebound off U of M goaltender Steve Racine and quickly snapped a shot into the back of the net.
The lead marked UW's fifth after one period of play so far this season.
But the Wolverines fought back in the second thanks to goals from Justin Selman and JT Compher to take a one-goal lead.
Grant Besse gave Wisconsin momentum heading into the second intermission, though.
The sophomore took a shot, which fluttered over Racine and off the cross bar. He dove back, appearing to prevent the puck from crossing the line. The referee standing on the goal line signaled no goal.
After a lengthy review, the call was overturned, tying the contest at two with 29 seconds left in the period.
It was all Wolverines in the final frame.
Compher netted his second goal with an unbelievable write shot, which went high short-side over Rumpel's left shoulder.
Just over four minutes later Selman scored again, putting U of M on top, 4-2.
Compher sealed the game at the 18:41 mark by forcing a turnover at the UW blue line and scoring an empty-net goal. The tally gave the forward a hat trick.
After winning the season series last year, 2-1-1, the Badgers went 0-4-0 against Michigan this year.
Rumpel made 29 saves in the loss, while Racine had 26.
Wisconsin plays its final road series next weekend at Michigan State. Friday's contest starts at 6 p.m. CT before wrapping up the series on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT on FS Wisconsin+ or FS Detroit.
