SEATTLE, Wash. - The Wisconsin men's tennis team completed its west coast road trip Sunday with a dual match against the 63rd-ranked University of Washington. The Badgers were unable to overcome the host Huskies and ultimately lost by a final score of 4-0.
Wisconsin began the match by dropping the doubles point in a series of tightly contested matches. At No. 1 doubles, Alexander Kokorev and Jakhongir Jalalov were defeated by the 39th-ranked doubles team of Washington's Emmett Egger and Jeff Hawke, 6-3.
Despite playing a competitive back-and-forth match, freshmen Lamar Remy and Darius Mackenzie were unable to overpower the team of Joao Barra and Mitch Stewart and lost by a score of 6-4.
Jose Maria Martin De Oliva Carranza and his partner, Josef Dodridge, were not given the chance to conclude their match but were leading Viktor Farkas and Gal Hakak at the time, 5-3.
The singles matches featuring Jalalov, Mackenzie and Sinha were all unable to finish, as the Huskies swept the remaining three points.
Washington's Stewart, who entered the match ranked No. 78 in the nation, defeated Kokorev by a score of 6-0, 6-2 in No. 1 singles play. Remy was also bested by his opponent, Douglas, 6-1, 6-3.
To finish out the match, Dodridge was downed by Washington's Hakak, 6-0, 6-2.
With Sunday's defeat, the Badgers finished 1-2 overall on the weekend. Wisconsin will return to action next weekend, as they travel to New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to take on non-conference foes Tulane and LSU.
