DE PERE, Wis. -- The Wisconsin men’s hockey team opened its season away from Madison for the second-consecutive year, as Team White defeated the Red squad, 4-2, in the annual Red-White Scrimmage. The Badgers travelled to De Pere, Wis., where they held a short practice and two-period scrimmage at Cornerstone Community Center—the home arena of defending NCAA Division III national champion St. Norbert College.
The event was held to showcase UW prior to its season-opener Oct. 10 against Alaska, but it may have been the youth players who took over third-line duties for each team during the scrimmage that stole the show.

The squirts and peewees who played every third shift for the Red and White teams accounted for four of the six goals scored on the afternoon.
White team squirt Makayla broke a scoreless stalemate with one second to spare in the first period, squeaking a goal between the left goal post and right pad of Team Red goaltender Landon Peterson as time expired.
Josh and another member of Team White added goals in the second period, while Red team peewee Cole beat goaltender Gabe Grunwald with a snipe from five feet out.
As for the Wisconsin players, Corbin McGuire registered a tally for Team Red early in the second frame, beating Grunwald with a low screamer. Keegan Ford responded minutes later for the White team, as he netted a shot from the blue line on the power play—an opportunity that resulted thanks to his brother Jason’s cross check.
No. 10/12 Wisconsin opens the 2014-15 campaign on Fri., Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. versus Alaska before taking on Alaska-Anchorage on Saturday at 10 p.m.
