Nov. 3, 2014 MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Wisconsin men’s tennis team wrapped up fall season with Sunday's action at the 2014 Big Ten Championships. The last standing Badger,
Alexander Kokorev, saw his run come to an end in the round of 16 against Minnesota’s Felix Corwin.
Kokorev was ultimately bested by Corwin in a highly competitive match, 6-4, 6-4.
In consolation play, freshman
Lamar Remy led the way for the Badgers, winning two consecutive matches. Remy first dispatched of Charlie Shin from Nebraska in a tiebreak, 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (5). Remy then kept his momentum going by defeating Minesota’s Eric Frueh in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
Fellow freshmen
Darius Mackenzie and Jose Maria Martin De Oliva Carranza were unable to earn consolation victories for UW. Mackenzie lost his matchup to Brett Forman of Michigan State by a score of 6-2, 6-1.
Following a back and forth opening set with Ohio State’s Matt Mendez, Carranza could not overcome the deficit and was defeated, 7-6 (3), 6-3.
Junior
Jakhongir Jalalov also suffered a consolation setback and lost to Kevin Wong from Michigan, 6-0. 6-3.
Sophomore
John Zordani was the final Badger to compete in Sunday’s consolation matches. Zordani put up a tough fight but was ultimately bested by Michigan State’s Michael Dube in a tiebreak, 7-6 (4), 0-6, 1-0 (3).
The conclusion of this weekend’s tournament play marks the end of the Badgers' fall season. The Wisconsin men’s tennis team will begin its spring season in January.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Wisconsin men’s tennis team began singles play at the 2014 Big Ten Indoor Championships Saturday. Three Badgers claimed victories and moved onto later rounds of the conference tournament action.
Leading the Badgers once again was junior Alexander Kokorev. After receiving a bye in the first round, No. 9 seeded Kokorev defeated Jasper Koenen from Michigan State in his first match of the day, 7-5, 6-4.
Kokorev now advances to the Round of 16 to face Minnesota's Felix Corwin on Sunday.
Freshman Darius Mackenzie was also able to earn a victory in his opening match and dispatched of Purdue’s Lucas Dages, 6-4, 6-4. In the round of 32, Mackenzie saw his run come to an end after dropping a competitive match to Ruben Weber of Minnesota by a score of 6-2, 6-4.
Freshman Lamar Remy was the third Badger to tally an opening round victory for UW. Remy beat Court Clark of Nebraska in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Like Mackenzie, Remy was unable to overcome his second round opponent and lost to Iowa’s Matt Hagan, 6-1, 6-3.
Senior Michael Sinha dropped a back and forth match to Davis Crocker from Michigan, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (ret.). In addition, Josef Dodridge suffered an opening-round setback and was defeated by Matt Mendez of Ohio State, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.
Both Jose Maria Martin De Oliva Carranza and Jakhongir Jalalov were defeated by first round competition as well.
John Zordani battled through a difficult round of 64 match and was ultimately bested by Michigan State’s Gijs Linders by a score of 6-2, 7-5. Zordani competed in the only consolation match of the day but lost to Bradford Zitsch from Nebraska in a tiebreak, 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (9).

Oct. 31, 2014 MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Wisconsin men’s tennis team opened the 2014 Big Ten Indoor Championships with the doubles competition Friday. Two different pairs of Badgers earned victories in their first round of matches.
Leading the way for the Badgers were
Alexander Kokorev and
Lamar Remy. The pair advanced to the A flight quarterfinals after defeating Nebraska’s Marc Herrmann and Chris Hobgarski, 8-4.
Following their victory, Kokorev and Remy dropped a back and forth quarterfinal showdown to Harry Jadun and John Patrick Mullane of Michigan State by a score of 8-6.
Earning a first-round victory for UW in the B flight was the Badgers team composed of
Michael Sinha and
Darius Mackenzie. The duo easily dispatched of Iowa’s Andres Entenssoro and Nils Hallestrand, 8-2.
In the B flight semifinal, Sinha and Mackenzie were defeated by Michael Dube and Mac Roy from Michigan State, 8-5. They also dropped a tightly contested match in consolation play to Nebraska’s Court Clark and Vasileios Stavropoulos, 8-7 (2).
Jose Maria Martin De Oliva Carranza and
John Zordani also competed for Wisconsin in the doubles A flight, but were overcome in the Round of 16 by Matt Hagan and Dominic Patrick of Iowa, 8-4.
In the B Flight,
Josef Dodridge and
Jakhongir Jalalov dropped a competitive first-round match to Minnesota’s Ruben Weber and Matic Spec by a score of 8-6.
Dodridge and Jalalov rebounded from the setback in consolation play to blank Court Clark and Vasileios Stavropoulos from Nebraska, 8-0. However, the duo lost their final match as a team to Iowa’s Andres Entenssoro and Nils Hallestrand, 8-3.
Dodridge then teamed up with Kokorev, and the pair bounced back from their earlier losses by beating Matt Mendez and Riley Reist of Ohio State in A flight consolation play, 8-4. Despite the initial win, the pair was unable to claim a victory against Minnesota’s Eric Frueh and Felix Corwin. They were beat by a score of 8-6.
The team composed of Zordani and Carranza was unable to recover from their initial first-round loss and dropped two more matches, 8-3, 8-3.
A pair of UW teams also competed in the two extra matches of the day, in which the Badgers went 1-1 against teams from Nebraska. Carranza and Zordani rallied to defeat Court Clark and Vasileios Stavropoulos, 8-3. Remy and Jalalov battled through a competitive match, but were eventually felled by Charlie Shin and Chris Schindler, 8-6.
The Wisconsin men’s tennis team will finish out the 2014 Big Ten Indoor Championships competing in the singles bracket Saturday and Sunday.
