LOS ANGELES -- Two days after being held scoreless for the first time in 2012, the No. 11/14 University of Wisconsin women's soccer team displayed its offensive aggressiveness against Loyola-Marymount, downing the Lions, 4-2, at Sullivan Field on Sunday.
"We're really excited to get a quality win over a quality opponent like Loyola-Marymount, who's done really well early on this season," head coach Paula Wilkins said. "I know we didn't get the result we had hoped for on Friday but I'm really proud of the way we put two games together in a weekend.
"I think it's really tough to play in a highly-contested match like we did on Friday and then come back and play with the same intensity two days later, so I'm really proud of the group for fighting through and willing themselves to a victory today."
Monica Lam-Feist gave the Badgers (4-1-0) the early lead, recording her third goal of the season in the 32nd minute. The senior took advantage of a misclear by Loyola-Marymount, as the senior collected the ball and touched it in from six yards out, giving UW the, 1-0, lead.
A quiet first half scoring-wise was juxtaposed with a quick-paced start to the second, as the Badgers notched a pair of goals in the first seven minutes of action following the intermission. Senior Paige Adams began the offensive attack in the 49th minute, as she took the ball in the open field, found space between two defenders, won the foot race and played it out wide for the goal.

Three minutes later, freshman McKenna Meuer notched her second goal in five career games. Following Kinley McNicoll's corner kick, senior Lindsey Johnson deflected the ball to Meuer, who headed it in and extended Wisconsin's lead to 3-0.
"From a coaching perspective, it's really exciting to see us get three goals in a half and get everyone involved in the scoring," Wilkins said. "It really exemplifies the work ethic we try to set for the team and shows that everyone is buying into the team mentality."
The Badgers seemed to seal the victory in the 70th minute following a goal from McNicoll on a cross from sophomore Kodee Williams, but a pair of goals from Loyola-Marymount's Darien Pyka (77') and Whitney Sharpe (84') resulted in a 4-2 deficit and a ray of hope for the Lions.
UW used the final six minutes of regulation to its advantage, substituting the majority of its starters back onto the pitch and successfully defending a Loyola-Marymount (4-2-0) shot and corner kick en route to the Badgers' fourth win of the season.
"It was disappointing to give up two goals in the end," Wilkins added. "But on a positive note, it gives us something to build off of and is hopefully a reminder that to be a great team we need to secure wins and close out games when we have the chance."
Wisconsin returns to the McClimon Complex next weekend for its final nonconference home match of the 2012 season. The Badgers welcome Illinois State to Madison on Sunday, Sept. 9, with kickoff slated for 2:30 p.m. (CT).
"We're excited to head home and play in front of our home crowd again," Wilkins said. "Hopefully we can get a little bit healthier, catch up on some sleep and be ready for a very good Illinois State team on Sunday, which will be a very good test for us."
