MADISON, Wis. – A power-play goal with just over two minutes remaining in the third period put the Badgers on the board, but it came too little too late as Wisconsin (12-13-2, 7-12-2 WCHA) fell 5-1 to St. Cloud State (11-14-4, 8-10-3 WCHA) Friday evening at the Kohl Center.
On that goal for Wisconsin, sophomore Frankie Simonelli (Benseville, Ill.) took a point shot that then deflected twice—first off freshman Brad Navin (Waupaca, Wis.) and then finally off freshman Brendan Woods (Fairfax, Va.) who was credited with the goal.

St. Cloud State took the lead early Friday when junior Ben Hanowski scored 4:40 into the game. Hanowski made the game 2-0 scoring again just 46 seconds into the second period.
The Huskies added two more goals in the second period and the Badgers went into the second intermission trailing 4-0.
St. Cloud State’s fifth and final goal came 2:03 into the third period. The Badgers avoided the shutout with Wood’s goal with 2:05, but that was the extent of Wisconsin’s scoring for the night.
Assistant captain Ryan Little (Fond du Lac, Wis.) said the Badgers know they have room to improve for Saturday night.
“We’re all going to go home tonight and it’s going to be tough to sleep,” Little said. “It’s tough to get over something like that but at the same time we talked after the game and said ‘thank gosh we have another game tomorrow.’ If we had to go a whole week with that loss on our minds it would be pretty brutal. We’ve got a chance at redemption tomorrow and that’ll be a good way to get [the loss] off our minds.”
The Huskies went 3-for-5 on the power play, scoring once in each period with the man advantage. The Badgers meanwhile went 1-for-4.
Both teams put 10 shots on net in each of the first two periods before Wisconsin out-shot the Huskies 12-4 in the final period.
Freshman Joel Rumpel (Swift Current, Sask.) finished his evening with 19 saves.
