Final Stats
DENVER – With first goals of the season by three players, Wisconsin (2-7-3, 2-5-3 WCHA) took another step in turning its season around on Saturday night, upsetting No. 5 Denver (9-4-1, 7-2-1) with a 3-1 victory and ensuring they would head home with three points on the weekend.
Though the Pioneers produced more shots on goal throughout the night, holding a 36-to-25 advantage, the Badgers struck early, scoring twice in the first period.

Derek Lee (North Vancouver, British Columbia) took a turnover and capitalized, scoring his first goal of the season and putting UW up 1-0 at the 5:01 mark of the first period. Tyler Barnes (Eagan, Minn.) and Nic Kerdiles (Irvine, Calif.) were credited with assists. The assist for Kerdiles marked his first career collegiate point.
Appearing in just his second game as a collegiate athlete, Kerdiles made his presence known again at the 12:38 mark of the first period, one-timing a loose puck along the left boards that junior forward Jefferson Dahl (Eau Claire, Wis.) deflected past DU goaltender Sam Brittain to increase the Badgers’ lead to 2-0.
Landon Peterson (Oregon, Wis.) played a big role in helping UW stretch out its early two-goal lead, putting a great night in the net for UW and recording 35 saves. The win marked the first of the season for Peterson, moving him to a 1-2-1 record.
The Badgers smothered DU through the first half of the second period, but Denver took advantage of a penalty that turned momentum a bit. At 12:25, DU capitalized on the power play when Daniel Doremus knocked in a centering pass for the score. The Pioneers went on to grab a 10-5 shot lead in the period.
The pressure continued for Denver in the third period, outshooting the Badgers, 13-6. but John Ramage (St. Louis) put the game away with a short-handed empty-netter with 8.2 seconds left to seal the win.
Wisconsin returns back home to the Kohl Center next weekend for a series with Michigan Tech on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7 and 8. Both games are set to begin at 7 p.m. (CT).
