MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin men's soccer team improved its unbeaten streak to a season-best three games Sunday with a 2-1 victory over the Loyola Marymount Lions at the McClimon Complex.
Junior Tomislav Zadro (Toronto, Ontario) scored the game's first goal at the 22:21 mark, putting UW up 1-0. With the goal, Zadro has now scored at least one point in each of Wisconsin's last six games.
Sophomore Chris Prince (Naperville, Ill.) and freshman AJ Cochran (St. Louis, Mo.) were both credited with an assist on Zadro's second goal of the season.
Before the half, Loyola Marymount struck back and tied the game, 1-1. Artur Jozkowicz kicked in his own blocked shot to equalize the game in the 42nd minute.
The Lions and Badgers entered the halftime break tied at 1-1. Wisconsin outshot the Lions, 8-5, in the first half, while each goalie recorded one save.
The game remained tied throughout most of a physical second half until the 86:15 mark when freshman David Caban (Kenosha, Wis.) connected off a double assist from sophomore Ryan Buda (Stevens Point, Wis.) and senior Josh Thiermann (Stoughton, Wis.) for the game-winning goal.
"It was a great pass to David Caban," said head coach John Trask. "There are a lot of other guys with Josh's skill set that would have been thinking, `I'm going to the goal', but, he picked up his head and realized he had a teammate that was wide open and he slipped him a nice little ball."
Caban's late goal put the Badgers up 2-1, and the Wisconsin defense kept the threatening Lions' offense at bay for the final four minutes of play to hand Loyola Marymount its sixth loss of the season.
Wisconsin's victory marks the Badgers' first Sunday win of the season. The Badgers are now 1-2-1 in Sunday competitions and 4-3-1 overall. Meanwhile, the Lions drop to 2-6-0 on the season.
Sophomore Max Jentsch (Hartland, Wis.) earned his third start of the season in goal and had two saves to improve to 2-0-1.
LMU goalkeeper Jack McCormack recorded five saves in goal.
The Badgers now prepare to host in-state rival Marquette on Wednesday, Sept. 28. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at the McClimon Complex.
