MADISON, Wis. - The No. 40 Wisconsin men's tennis team earned a 7-0 win over visiting UIC at Nielsen Tennis Stadium Wednesday night. The win marked the Badgers' third shutout victory of the season and evened UW's record at 4-4 overall.
The doubles pair of senior Marek Michalicka and sophomore Billy Bertha improved to a perfect 8-0 at the No. 1 doubles position. The duo picked up an 8-4 win over UIC's Alexander Raa and Dave Robare.
The pairs of No. 2 doubles Ricardo Martin and Rod Carey and No. 3 doubles Petr Satral and Fredrik Ask also posted victories over the Flames to give the Badgers their third doubles sweep of the season.
After securing the doubles point, the Badgers rolled through singles play to earn the 7-0 victory over UIC (2-7).
Satral defeated Luiz Gonzaga, 6-3, 6-1, to take the first singles match for the Badgers at the No. 4 singles position.
Michalicka then gave Wisconsin its second singles win of the night as the senior captain improved to a team-best 6-1 mark with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Raa at No. 1 singles.
Redshirt freshman Alexander Teppert earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Camilo Giraldo at the No. 6 slot in his first singles appearance of the season.
Bertha then defeated UIC's Nate Kirk at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-4, before Carey knocked off Alan Reifer in a close 7-6, 7-6 match at No. 5 singles to seal the 7-0 win.
The Badgers continue their eight-match homestand when they host No. 41 Nebraska on Saturday. The match is set for noon (CT) at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
