No. 9 Badgers fall short in home stunner

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Home losses have become so rare under Bo Ryan, that if it happens, it's an astonishing surprise. Even when that loss comes against a top-25 opponent like it did Saturday, when No. 16 Marquette knocked off No. 9 Wisconsin, 61-54, at the Kohl Center.
Wisconsin (6-2) -- who had won 23-consecutive home games, and 10-straight against ranked foes -- was held to just 32.0 percent shooting and had only one player reach double figures.
Jordan Taylor led the Badgers with 13 points, but the senior guard sat for a long stretch of the second half after picking up his fourth foul of the game with 13:29 remaining.

Wisconsin would trail by as many as 13 in the second half before a Josh Gasser's 3-pointer capped an 11-0 run to pull the Badgers within one at 41-40 with 10:45 left.
However, the Badgers would get no closer as Darius Johnson-Odom (17 points) and Marquette (7-0) weathered the storm and capitalized on second-chance opportunities to escape with the win.
With Marquette leading 51-42, Taylor -- who appeared to hurt his right ankle on the previous possession -- hit a jumper with just over four minutes left, then cut the deficit to five with a pair of free throws.
Taylor then hit a driving layup to get the Badgers within three.
But Mayo scored on a high-arching layup, and Davante Gardner scored inside to give the Golden Eagles a 55-48 lead.
Ben Brust hit a 3-pointer for Wisconsin with a minute left, cutting the lead to four, but the Golden Eagles hit their free throws down the stretch and Mayo added the dunk for a big finish.
The Golden Eagles used a 17 to 5 scoring advantage in the paint and held UW to a season-low five 3-pointers (5-of-19).
In 11 seasons under Bo Ryan, Wisconsin is now 156-12 (.929) at the Kohl Center, owning the fourth-highest home winning percentage in the nation over that span.
UW will return to action on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip-off against Green Bay at the Kohl Center.
