
Wanland brings back the silver from the 2011 PanAmerican Games

MADISON, Wis. – Wisconsin senior Ashley Wanland will return to Madison with a silver medal after clinching second place in the 100-meter breaststroke at the 2011 PanAmerican Games on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
Ahead of Wanland, USA’s Ashley Chandler seized the gold in the 100-meter breast, touching the wall in 1:07.90. Close behind her teammate, Wanland reached the wall in a time of 1:80.55 to give the USA a 1-2 finish in the event. Canada’s Ashley McGregor finished less than a second behind Wanland and took third with 1:08.96.
This is Wanland’s first top-three finish and second top-eight finish in international competition.
After Wanland’s contribution to the medal count, as of Monday night, Oct. 17, the United States led the PanAm games in medals, with 16 gold and 43 overall.
