MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Wisconsin women’s soccer team and the Marquette Golden Eagles finished in a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes of exhibition play on Saturday at Valley Fields in Milwaukee, Wis.
Both teams experienced a little bit of déjà vu from last year’s battle when the teams ended in a 2-2 tie.
After 80 minutes of scoreless play, MU’s Lindsey Page found the back of the net at the 81st minute to give Marquette the 1-0 advantage.
Before the Golden Eagles captured the victory, the Badgers were able to capitalize on a free kick. Wisconsin junior Erin Jacobsen made an attempt at the top of the net but hit the cross bar. Sophomore Monica Lam-Feist took advantage of the ricochet and fired the ball into the back of the net to settle the score at 1-1 with seven seconds left in the contest.
“I saw some really good things and I saw some things that we have to work on,” Wisconsin head coach Paula Wilkins said. “Playing against a really great team like Marquette really helps us to see what our weaknesses are and gives us a chance to see what we need to improve on.
“I was pleased with the performances of some of the younger players and I think that this is a great starting spot before heading to Green Bay next weekend. This will really help us know what we have to work on during the next few days of training.”
The Badgers will open the regular season at Green Bay on Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. The game marks the first time Wisconsin returns to Aldo Santaga Stadium in Green Bay, Wis. since 2005.
