MADISON, Wis. -- Landon Peacock dropped a few places in the finishing order, but he also -- and more importantly -- dropped some time in the 1,500 meters Friday in Gainesville, Fla.

A week after winning the 1,500 meters at the Florida State Relays, the junior grabbed an eighth-place finish on the opening day of the Florida Relays by running a time of 3:46.62.

Peacock dropped nearly four seconds off his season-opening mark from a week ago and led the charge for Wisconsin’s track athletes. Redshirt freshman Maverick Darling was 10th in 3:48.36.

Sophomore Phil Thomas opened his season on a strong note with a fourth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, as he dropped nearly 18 seconds off his personal-best mark in the event with his time of 9:04.65.

Freshman Drew Shields wasn’t far behind, as he clocked in at 9:06.01 to claim sixth place.

Despite jumping into a stiff headwind, junior Rayme Mackinson was fifth in the long jump with a mark of 24-0 1/4.

Senior Rory Linder was the Badgers’ other competitor in the field events,

Senior Nate Larkin also battled a headwind and led the charge for the Badgers in the 110-meter hurdles with a 14th-place finish in 14.41.

In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Pat Plank’s time of 53.99 was good for 22nd place, while Grant Bughman ran a 54.94 to finish 28th.

After an All-America season indoors at 3,000 meters, senior Craig Miller opened his outdoor schedule with a run in the 800 meters and finished 21st with a time of 1:52.52. Redshirt freshman teammate Rob Finnerty finished 29th in 1:53.66.

The Badgers continue competition in the Florida Relays with a number of events Saturday at the Percy Beard Track, beginning at 11 a.m. CT.
