MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin men’s basketball team finds itself back in the national rankings, checking in at No. 24 in Monday’s USA Today/ESPN coaches’ poll. The Badgers are also receiving votes in the AP poll, garnering the 28th-most votes.
Winners of six straight, Wisconsin (10-2) is ranked for the first time since the Nov. 15 poll when the Badgers were 25th in the nation.
The Badgers will open the Big Ten season against another ranked squad when No. 13 Minnesota enters the Kohl Center on Tuesday, Dec. 28. Wisconsin has won seven consecutive Big Ten openers overall and head coach Bo Ryan is a perfect 9-0 in Big Ten home openers.
Ryan-led teams are 12-4 vs. Minnesota, but the Gophers have won three straight in the series.
The last time Wisconsin and Minnesota faced each other as ranked teams was a 61-50 Badgers win on Jan. 30, 1999. Wisconsin was ranked 12th and Minnesota was 19th for that game.
UW is one of six Big Ten teams in the rankings, joining Ohio State (2), Purdue (11), Minnesota (13), Michigan State (19) and Illinois (25).
