
Eight Badgers head to USA Hockey training camp

• 2010 USA Hockey Women's Winter Training Camp
BLAINE, Minn. – Eight current Badgers are among 40 of the nation’s top female hockey players taking part in the 2010 USA Hockey Women’s Winter Training Camp taking place this week. The six-day camp began Sunday and runs through Friday at the National Sports Center’s Schwan Super Rink and will serve as a tryout and training session for the U.S. Women's National Team.
Freshman Kelly Jaminski (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) and senior Geena Prough (Farmington, Mich.), are among 13 defensemen attending the camp. The duo joins former Badger Molly Engstrom (Siren, Wis.) in representing UW at the blue line.
Six Badger forwards join former UW skaters Erika Lawler (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Jinelle Zaugg-Siergiej (Eagle River, Wis.) to round out Wisconsin’s participants in the camp. Freshman Brittany Ammerman (River Vale, N.J.), junior Brooke Ammerman (River Vale, N.J.), sophomore Brianna Decker (Dousman, Wis.), senior Meghan Duggan (Danvers, Mass.), junior Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho) and freshman Madison Packer (Birmingham, Mich.) are all attending the camp.
Former Badger Jessie Vetter (Cottage Grove, Wis.) is one of four goaltenders participating in the camp, joining Brianne McLaughlin, Molly Schaus and Kerrin Sperry in net.
Decker, Duggan and Knight are among 20 players on the roster who recently competed at the 2010 Women's Four Nations Cup in St. John's, N.L.
Incoming Badger Karley Sylvester (Warroad, Minn.) was also in Blaine, Minn., with the U.S. Women’s National Under-18 Team prior to the team’s departure for the 2011 International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Women's U18 Championship. The event is set for Jan. 1-8 in Stockholm, Sweden.
