MADISON, Wis. -- For the second straight night, No. 15 Wisconsin (6-6-2, 3-5-2 WCHA) and No. 1 Minnesota Duluth needed overtime to decide a winner. And for the second straight night, the Bulldogs (11-1-2, 8-1-1 WCHA) victimized the Badgers with a goal in the extra session for a victory.

After a high scoring affair Friday night, the first period ended with no score. Then, just 1:10 into the second period, Kyle Schmidt found the net for UMD.  Dylan Olsen took a shot from the point, and Schmidt deflected it in from the top of the crease to score the game's first goal.

Wisconsin answered back at 15:45 of the second period. Just after a Wisconsin power play ended, Jake Gardiner (Minnetonka, Minn.) fired a shot on net. Michael Mersch (Park Ridge, Ill.) collected the rebound and lifted a shot over UMD goaltender Aaron Crandall to tie the score. Wisconsin finished the second period tied at 1-1 despite being outshot to that point 25-15.

In the third period, Minnesota Duluth retook the lead on a short-handed goal. The Badgers lost control of the puck at the offensive blue line. Mike Connolly then streaked down the ice on a breakaway and put the puck past Brett Bennett (Williamsville, N.Y.) to take a 2-1 lead.

Later in the period, Wisconsin took advantage of a power play to tie the score. Mark Zengerle (Rochester, N.Y.) held the puck behind the net, and passed to Jordy Murray (Faribault, Minn.) who was free in the slot. Murray snapped off a quick wrist shot and buried it into the net for his team leading 10th goal of the season. Zengerle tallied his second assist of the game on the play, increasing his team leading total to 16 assists.

Murray's game tying goal came at 10:01 of the third period. After the rest of the third period passed with neither team scoring, the Badgers and Bulldogs headed to overtime for the second straight night.

In the overtime period, Minnesota Duluth stormed up the ice on a 3-on-2 rush. Jack Connolly recovered a blocked shot and found room over Bennett's shoulder to give UMD the victory and the series sweep.

The Badgers were outshot by Minnesota Duluth 35-24. Wisconsin went 1-for-5 on the power play, while UMD finished 0-for-4.

For Wisconsin, Bennett finished with 32 saves. He took his second loss of the weekend to drop his record to 3-2-1. Minnesota Duluth's Aaron Crandall made 22 saves in the victory, improving to 6-1-0 on the season.

The Badgers are back in action next weekend for the College Hockey Showcase. The Badgers will host Michigan on Friday night and Michigan State on Saturday night. Friday's game will begin at 7 p.m., with Saturday's contest an 8 p.m., start.
