MADISON, Wis. -- Facing a tough test against WCHA opponent North Dakota (7-4-1, 6-2-0 WCHA), the Badgers lost 4-2 in front of a sell-out crowd of 15,325 at the Kohl Center. The Badgers were outshot by North Dakota 43-16 and fell to 6-4-2, 3-3-2 in the WCHA.

The game was scoreless through the first period. The Badgers were strong on the penalty kill, fending off three penalties in a period where they were outshot by North Dakota 16-4.

North Dakota opened the scoring at 8:44 of the second period. With the Sioux on the power play, Matt Frattin took a wrist shot from the point that beat screened goalie Scott Gudmanson (Sherwood Park, Alberta).

North Dakota thought they had extended their lead late in the period, when Danny Kristo's backhander found the back of the net. However, the goal was waived off when it was ruled that a North Dakota player was in the crease. The score remained at 1-0 after two periods.

In the third period, Wisconsin would tie the game with a goal from an unlikely source. Sophomore defenseman John Ramage (St. Louis) unleashed a slap shot from the point to even the score at 4:36 of the third period. Ramage's goal was his first since October 31, 2009 against New Hampshire, a 44-game span.

The lead would not last for long, as just 95 seconds later the Sioux would retake the lead when Corban Knight redirected a puck from in front of the net at 8:32.

Knight added a second goal shortly after that on the power play. Chad Genoway took a shot right after a faceoff. Gudmandson made the initial save, but the puck trickled through his pads and Knight knocked it in at 9:54 of the third period.

Matt Frattin would later extend the North Dakota lead to 4-1 with his second goal of the night, scoring on a deflected wrist shot. The three third period goals for the Sioux came just 3 minutes and 43 seconds apart.

The Badgers would attempt to charge back into the game late in the period. Defenseman Justin Schultz (West Kelowna, B.C.) scored his fifth goal of the season on a slap shot from the point. However, Wisconsin was unable to find the net again and Schultz's goal concluded the scoring for the night.

Scott Gudmandson took a tough loss for the Badgers, making 39 saves but falling to 3-4-1 on the season. Aaron Dell made 14 saves for North Dakota to improve to 6-3-0.

North Dakota was 2-for-7 on the power play, recording 20 shots with a man advantage. Wisconsin was able to kill off 53 seconds of a 5-on-3 advantage in the first period. Wisconsin was 1-for-2 on the power play.

Wisconsin is back in action at the Kohl Center next weekend, hosting WCHA opponent Minnesota Duluth. Games are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.
