December 27, 2008 | Men's Basketball
Senior forward athid=5549&deptid=116"> --> Marcus Landry (Milwaukee) was recently selected as one of the 30 men 's basketball candidates for the eighth-annual Lowe's Senior Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School (CLASS) Award.
Landry represents the University of Wisconsin among the candidates for the 2009 award, which range from 27 different schools and 14 conferences. He is in fact the third Badger to be selected to the top 30 for the Senior CLASS Award since its introduction during the 2001-02 season. Last year, forward Brian Butch was selected as one of the 30 candidates for the award. During the 2006-07 season, Alando Tucker, who was drafted by the Phoenix Suns at the conclusion of the season, became the first Badger to win the Senior CLASS Award.
Landry and the other candidates were nominated based on the 'Four C's ''classroom, character, community and competition. His Senior CLASS Award profile outlines his attributes in each of these areas, including academic improvement, an astute grasp of leadership and responsibility, steadfast involvement in his church as well as in the lives of his own three children and area youth, and lastly, much-deserved his athletic achievements.
As an official corporate partner of the NCAA, Lowe's presents the prestigious senior award to one athlete annually in nine NCAA Division I sports 'to honor the attributes of college seniors who remain committed to their university and pursue the many rewards that a senior season and complete college education brings.'
The ballot will be narrowed by a national media committee to 10 finalists in February 2009, upon which those 10 players will be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote. College basketball fans are encouraged to submit ballots by text voting or on-line at www.seniorclassaward.com.
The 2008-09 men's basketball Senior CLASS Award will be presented the weekend of April 4-6 at the Final Four tournament in Detroit, Mich.
