UW player post-game quotes vs. Coppin State
December 20, 2008 | Men's Basketball
Senior Forward Marcus Landry
On players finding one another on the court:
'Earlier in the year I noticed I was getting doubled a lot so when practicing different things like that I try to really be aware of my teammates cutting and realizing when the trap is coming. Today, every time I touched the ball, they trapped me or my teammates were cutting and they had a better shot than I could have had, so I passed them the ball.'
On the team shooting only two free throws in such a physical game:
'I guess it was a record game today' I don''t know. They weren' 't fouling as much. It was a physical game other than that but fouls just weren' 't there so we shot just two free throws today.'
Sophomore Forward Jon Leuer
On his stretch of 10 straight points:
'It made it easy with my guys finding me. I was open in some spots and my teammates found me. We adjusted to the zone and we got some good shots. Our three 's weren''t going as we had liked. We didn''t shoot that great of a percentage so we had to establish ourselves down low a little more by out-rebounding them the way we did and finding guys in the post.'
Junior Guard Jason Bohannon
On adjusting to all the different defenses Coppin State used:
'They changed it up a lot but we tried to not get away from what we like to do. We always stuck to the same principles: getting wide and trying to make the zone stretch to get into the middle. We did a good job of that today. They changed a lot because we executed well and got a lot of decent shots. We tried not to go away from what we liked to do too much, even depending on the defense.'
On the key to getting the lead back to double digits when it was cut to eight:
'We were making the extra pass and getting open looks. They made a little run and they hit some tough shots. Throughout the game they hit some tough shots. We played some good defense and they still hit them. On offense, we just made the extra pass and looked for the open shot. We got in the post, which was the big thing. It opened up a lot of things, whether it be on the backside or down low on the opposite block. Whether it was Jon [Leuer] or Joe [Krabbenhoft], whoever it was, that really helped us a lot to push the lead back up.'
