
Badgers plan to pick up pace at Texas Invitational

The No. 19 Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team will compete this weekend at the Texas Invitational, Dec. 4-6 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Swimming Center in Austin, Texas.
The Badgers will take on some of the top teams from around the country, with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m. each day, and event finals starting at 6 p.m.
Competition for the Badgers throughout the weekend includes No. 3 Arizona, No. 4 Texas, No. 16 UCLA, No. 17 SMU, Nebraska, Hawaii and Washington State. The meet is highly competitive, and Wisconsin often puts up some of its best times of the season at the annual event. Last year, the Badgers posted 24 NCAA qualifying times at the Texas Invitational alone, where they finished fourth with 423 team points.
Wisconsin retains some of its top finishers from last year's Texas Invitational. The highest finish in any event for the Badgers was second place in the 800-yard freestyle relay, which included current senior athid=5593&deptid=194"> --> Jen Illescas , junior athid=6045&deptid=194"> --> Rosie Morahan and sophomore athid=6650&deptid=194"> --> Maggie Meyer . Current Junior athid=6044&deptid=194"> --> Gabby Maddalena was the highest finisher in an individual event for Wisconsin in 2007, placing fourth in the 1650-yard freestyle.
The Badgers are fresh off a win in their sportid=194&storyid=15703"> --> last dual meet , defeating then-No. 20 Northwestern 171-129 at the UW Natatorium for their 44th-consecutive conference dual victory.
Against the Wildcats, Wisconsin placed in the top three in all 16 women's events, including 10 first-place finishes and a pool record, which was set by the 200-yard freestyle relay team of freshman athid=7385&deptid=194"> --> Beckie Thompson , Meyer, Morahan and Illescas.
This will be the last meet of the 2008 calendar year for the Badgers, who next travel to Honolulu, Hawaii, to face the University of Hawaii on Jan. 10.
