Butch Named Big Ten Player of the Week
December 31, 2007 | Men's Basketball
Wisconsin senior forward Brian Butch was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday after recording his third double-double of the season and 10th of his career with 21 points and 11 rebounds in the Badgers' 67-66 win over No. 9 Texas.
It was UW's first road win over a top-10 team since defeating No. 4 Ohio State on Jan. 26, 1980. The Appleton, Wis., native scored 10 of Wisconsin's final 17 points, over the last eight minutes of the game. He made 9-of-17 shots and added three assists. Six of Butch's 11 rebounds were on the offensive end. This is the first weekly accolade of his career. The last Badger to earn POW honors was Alando Tucker on Feb. 12, 2007.
Butch is averaging 13.6 points and 8.3 rebounds this season, both among the top 15 in the Big Ten. He has started all 12 games for UW and is averaging 24.7 minutes per game.
The Badgers open Big Ten play on Wednesday at Michigan. The game will begin at 6 p.m. CT and be televised by the Big Ten Network.
