December 18, 2006 | Men's Basketball
The Wisconsin men's basketball team is ranked fourth in the latest Associated Press poll, released on Monday. That is the highest UW has been ranked in school history, surpassing the No. 6 ranking the Badgers received on Dec. 4, 1962.
UW is 11-1 on the season and has won seven straight games. Last week the Badgers defeated UW-Milwaukee and Pitt at home. Pitt entered the game ranked No. 2 in the country. It was Wisconsin's first victory over the second-ranked team in the country since deating Minnesota on March 8, 1997.
UCLA remained No. 1 in the poll for the fourth straight week. North Carolina is ranked second and fellow Big Ten member Ohio State is No. 3. After its loss to Wisconsin, Pitt fell from second to seventh.
In the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, also released on Monday, UW jumped from seventh to fifth. In addition to the three teams ranked ahead of them in the A.P. poll, the Badgers also trail Florida in the Coaches poll.
