December 31, 2005 | Men's Basketball
The Wisconsin men's basketball team (10-1) faces Pittsburgh (10-0) today at 5 p.m at the Peterson Events Center in Pittsburgh, Pa. The game will be televised live by ESPN Plus with John Sanders and former Badger Mike Kelley on the call.
The game will be shown on the following stations in Wisconsin: UPN-14 (Madison), WMLW (Milwaukee), WLAX (La Crosse), WEAU (Eau Claire) and WFXS (Wausau). The game will also be carried by Fox Sports Net in Pittsburgh.
Wisconsin's 10-1 record is its best to start a season under head coach Bo Ryan. The last time UW was 10-1 was the beginning of the 2000-01 season. The Badgers are currently ranked 22nd in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Poll and 24th in the Associated Press Poll. Pitt is 23rd in the coaches poll and receiving votes in the A.P. poll.
After a 12-day layoff, Wisconsin showed no signs of rust in its last game vs. Louisiana Tech, scoring on seven of its first nine possessions to jump out to a 15-3 lead in the first 4:58 of the game. The Badgers were also hot to start the second half as they used an 11-0 run to open the stanza and stretch their lead to 50-25 with 17:09 left in the game.
Four Badgers scored in double figures vs. Louisiana Tech, the fourth time that has happened this season. Wisconsin is 40-3 under Bo Ryan when at least four Badgers score in double figures.
In the last six games, no team has shot better than 40.0 percent against the Badgers. UW is limiting its opponents to an average of 58.5 points and just .369 (131-355) shooting from the field. From 3-point range, opponents are shooting .308 (41-133) over that span.
