Badgers Headed for Paradise

The University of Wisconsin men's basketball team begins its 2005-06 season with three games this weekend in the Paradise Jam tournament at the Sports and Fitness Center at the University of the Virgin Islands in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
The Badgers (2-0 preseason) will play Norfolk State at 7:30 p.m. CT Friday, Eastern Kentucky at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, and depending on how they fare, either a consolation game on Monday (2:30 or 5 p.m.) or the championship game at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
'Norfolk State's first, and that's who we 'll get ready for,' head coach Bo Ryan said following his squad's 81-46 victory over Lawrence Monday night. 'I think the guys are ready. They're ready to play somebody when it counts.'
Alando Tucker led Wisconsin with 43 points in the preseason, including 25 vs. Lawrence. The junior shot a remarkable 18-of-29 (.621) through two contests and made his presence felt inside with 13 rebounds.
Sophomore Kammron Taylor saw extensive playing time in both games and accumulated nine assists and four steals.
The Spartans also begin their regular season at the Paradise Jam. The team was picked to finish fourth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, while sophomore guard Tony Murphy was named to the pre-season All-MEAC second team. Murphy made a team-high 49 3-point baskets last year.
The winner among the three teams'they form the 'St. Thomas' bracket'will take on the victor from the 'St. John ' bracket, which consists of Georgia, Old Dominion and Fordham. Tiebreakers and other information can be found at http://www.paradisejam.com/pages/men.htm .
