Jackie MacMillan (Buffalo, Minn.) made 25 saves to help Wisconsin shutout Ohio State for the fourth time in six meetings as the Badgers won 4-0 at Capitol Ice Arena Saturday night.
Despite getting outshot 25-16 for the game, the Badgers scored twice in the first, once in the second and once in the third to earn the win.
Karen Rickard (Bowmanville, Ontario) opened the scoring with a goal three minutes into the game. Nicole Uliasz (Chalfont, Pa.) passed to Sharon Cole along the left boards. Cole spotted Rickard streaking down the right side and hit the junior with a cross-ice pass. Rickard skated in all alone on OSU goalie April Stojak and beat the netminder for her fifth tally of the season.
The Badgers scored on the power play at 8:37 to push their lead to two. Kathy Devereaux (Seaforth, Ontario) blocked an OSU clearing attempt along the right boards and dropped the puck to Jackie Friesen (Regina, Saskatchewan) skating towards the point. Friesen continued to the center of the blue line and scored from there with a slap shot. It was the sophomore's team-best eighth score.
Uliasz made it a 3-0 contest in the second with a point shot at 8:46. Sis Paulsen (Eau Claire, Wis.) fed the sophomore at the blue line and the defender 's slapper found the upper corner of the far side. Stojak, who failed to see the shot, covered the bottom portion of the goal on the play. Meghan Hunter (Oil Springs, Ontario) also got an assist.
Natalie Lamme replaced Stojak in net for the Buckeyes at the 12-minute mark of the second period and made four shots the rest of the way. Lamme and OSU kept the Badgers scoreless through the rest of the third period until the Buckeyes pulled her for the extra skater with 52 seconds left. Eight seconds later, Kendra Antony (Yorkton, Saskatchewan) skated the puck into an empty net and made it a 4-0 final. Kathryn Greaves (Mentor, Ohio) assisted on the goal.
MacMillan recorded her second shutout of the season and 13th of her career with the 25-save effort. She improved to 8-4-2. Stojak stopped eight shots in just over a period and a half of action and fell to 2-6-1.
Wisconsin (8-4-2, 2-4-2 WCHA) remains at home next weekend and faces Minnesota State (3-9-0, 2-6-0) at the Kohl Center. The games are Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at 1:05 p.m. and 2:35 p.m., respectively.
