MacLeod Selected To Canada's Four Nations Cup Squad
October 17, 2002 | Women's Hockey
Sophomore women's hockey defender Carla MacLeod (Calgary, Alberta) was selected to represent Canada at the 2002 Four Nations Cup, Canada's National Women's Team Head Coach Karen Hughes announced on Wednesday. The event will take place Nov. 6-10 in Kitchener, Ontario. MacLeod joins Badger teammate Kerry Weiland (Palmer, Alaska), who was selected to the American team last week.
The Four Nations Cup roster includes 16 members of Canada's 2002 Olympic team that won a gold medal in Salt Lake City as well as eight players, including MacLeod, from the National Under-22 Team that won a three-game series (2-0-1) against the US National Under-22 Team in August 2002. The team was chosen after a six-day Canadian National Team development camp held October 8-13, 2002 in Toronto, Ontario.
As a frosh, MacLeod helped the Badgers to a national-best 1.41 goals-against-per-game average during the 2001'02 regular season. A Western Collegiate Hockey Association All-Tournament defender, she collected 25 points to rank third among Conference defenders and fourth among all rookies last season. Her 18 points in League games were good enough to share second among defenders.
The National Women's Team will be holding a second Development camp in January 2003, prior to naming Canada's 2003 IIHF World Women's Hockey Championship roster in February 2003.
The Badgers (2-0-0) welcome MacLeod back to the lineup this weekend when they visit Storrs, Conn., and a two-game series against the University of Connecticut on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19 and 20. The games begin at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
