The Wisconsin women's swimming and diving team completed first day action Friday at the Texas Invitational in Austin, Texas. Eight Badgers captured NCAA consideration times in five out of seven events.
'The meet got off to a solid start, Hansen said. 'We were hot and cold in some places, but we showed progress in some really important areas.'
The 200 yard free relay finished fourth in an NCAA consideration time of 1:32.74 behind the host Texas Longhorns, Cal and Arizona. Junior Jenny Lyman (Englewood, Colo.), senior Christy Mullinax (Texarkana, Ark.), frosh Shannon Van Curen (Brentwood, Tenn.) and senior Gina Loechl (Eureka, Calif.) made up the Badger relay.
Lyman and Van Curen also added NCAA consideration times in the 50 free with times of 23.14 and 23.48, respectively. Sophomore Emily Pisula (Freeport, Ill.) finished sixth in the 200 IM in 2:01.68. The NCAA automatic time in the 200 IM is 2:01.05.
'We most likely qualified six [total] people for NCAAs after the first day and we hope to add to that tally as the meet progresses,' Hansen said.
The Texas Invitational continues Saturday, with prelims starting at 10:00 a.m. and finals beginning at 6 p.m.
