Badgers Prepare For Big Island Invitational
November 21, 2001 | Men's Basketball
The Wisconsin men's basketball team is spending this holiday week in the tropical paradise of Hawaii. The Badgers arrived in the Kona airport on Sunday night at approximately 8 p.m. local time. The UW flew from Las Vegas to Los Angeles to Honolulu to Kona. The combined travel time came to about 10 hours.
The time was well worth it as the Badgers are in the midst of spending three days at the Waikoloa Hilton Village outside of Kona. Among the amenities at the hotel are four swimming pools, three hot tubs, numerous waterfalls and a lagoon that connects the four hotel towers. Assistant coach Rob Jeter took full advantage of the grounds, getting married to the former Ms. Deanna Zolecki in the scenic chapel on the hotel grounds on Monday afternoon.
The Badgers have not forgotten why they came to Hawaii, however, and that is to play basketball. Wisconsin has practiced two hours a day and will continue practicing until its game against Hawaii-Hilo on Friday.
Still to come for the Badgers is a snorkeling trip on Wednesday, followed by a Luau. On Thursday, the UW travel party will celebrate Thanksgiving as they move the team to Hilo. Be sure to check back to UWBADGERS.com for exclusive coverage.
