Shane Burgess serves as the Assistant Athletic Director for Event Operations at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a role he assumed after a six-year run as the department's Director of Event Management.
Since joining Wisconsin Athletics in 2012, Burgess has moved up through the department's ranks, previously serving as Associate Director of Events and Operations (2016–2019), Assistant Director of Camps and Events (2013–2016), and Event Manager (2012–2013).
In his current role, he oversees the management of all athletic department-hosted events, including football, men’s basketball, rowing, facility rentals, and major concerts. He also coordinates university functions—such as spring commencement at Camp Randall Stadium—alongside community and prep events like the annual Crazylegs Classic and the WIAA State High School Championships for football and boys’ basketball.
Beyond his responsibilities at UW, Burgess has served as a team liaison for the Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament. He is an active member of the Collegiate Events and Facilities Management Association (CEFMA) and has held multiple leadership roles within the Collegiate Athletic Operations Conference (CAOS), including serving as president in 2019.
Burgess, a native of Dover, Ohio earned his bachelor’s degree in education with a minor in homeland security from Ohio State in 2011.
He is married to Kayla, a Waunakee native. The couple have a son, Cole and reside in Dane, Wisconsin.
