Madison Cable, a former honorable mention All-American at Notre Dame, is in her second season with the Badgers as a graduate assistant. Cable is attending graduate school in educational leadership and policy analysis.
“I am very excited to welcome Madison Cable to the Wisconsin women’s basketball family,” Tsipis said. “I was fortunate enough to recruit and coach Madison while I was at Notre Dame. Her playing career is what we strive for here at Wisconsin as she continued to become a more accomplished player and leader each season with the Irish. Our student-athletes will benefit greatly from Madison.”
Cable aided the Fighting Irish to four consecutive NCAA Finals Fours, including three national runner up finishes. Notre Dame also won four regular-season and one tournament championship during her tenure. The 5-foot, 10-inch guard was a two-time ACC All-Tournament selection, earning most valuable player honors in 2016. As a senior, Cable was a first-team All-ACC pick, an Associated Press honorable mention All-American and a Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-America team finalist, earning all-region honors.
One of the most prolific 3-point shooters in NCAA history, Cable ranks 10th in the NCAA record book with a career 3-point field goal percentage of .456. She played in 145 career games with the Fighting Irish and scored more than 1,000 points.
“I’m excited for the opportunity that Coach Tsip and the staff have given me here at Wisconsin,” Cable said. “He recruited me out of high school to Notre Dame and was my coach for the first year. I learned a lot from him at Notre Dame and I’m excited to learn a lot from here.”
A native of Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, Cable was a Parade All-American, Gatorade Pennsylvania Player of the Year and Associated Press Pennsylvania Class AAAA Player of the Year in 2011.She graduated from Notre Dame in May of 2015 with a degree in political science and earned credits towards her master’s degree while completing her fifth season with the Fighting Irish. During the summer of 2015, Cable completed internship with NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins.
